Our Story

Food Runs in Our Family

Plaza Linda Mexican Restaurant was started in 1963 in beautiful Carmel Valley Village by Dean Sr. & Jennie Diaz along with Dean Jr. & Jossie Diaz along with their sons Robert Diaz & Rene Diaz. Through the years the family provided a wonderful dining experience for all. The recipes were unique and different cooking Mexican food with no lard, “baked” Chile Rellenos & hand rolled Artichoke heart enchiladas. With the help of wonderful staff, family and their sons they grew the business from 800 sq. ft to 3000 sq. ft with a full bar, catering division. In addition to the restaurant they manufactured and sold packaged meals & salsa to over 200 grocery stores in northern California. Whether it was local families, hippies, cowboys on horses, The Beatles, John Baez, Doris Day, Kim Novak, Sting, Cheryl Tiegs, John Madden, General Alexander Haig, Jack Valanti,  Y.A. Tittle, John Brodie, Leon Panetta, Pancho Gonzales, or John Gardiner, they served every meal with love and pride.

The Plaza Linda was sold in 2008 to another family who still operates Plaza Linda Mexican Restaurant. Currently the Diaz family operates World Café located at the DLI at The Presidio of Monterey military base & Urban Kitchen Catering & Events located off the base.
